WAY TO GO!
The final round of auditions took place last weekend and we are proud to announce that FOUR Orchestra students made the final round of All-State!

Congratulations to Violinist Atticus Crowe, Violist Doug Ilijev, Cellist Jack Xu, and Bassist Luis Baston!  Atticus, Doug, and Jack are members of the 2008-2009 All-State String Orchestra and Luis is a member of the 5A Concert Band!  We wish them luck in their preparation for their Chair Audition and performance at the All-State Clinic and Convention in San Antonio in February!

REGION ORCHESTRA BEGINS FRIDAY
Sectionals for Region will be held at Taylor HS starting at 6:30p on Friday, November 14th.  Roll call is at 6:15a, so make plans to arrive by 6p, but park on the west side of the campus.  The exact clinic and concert schedule has been placed in your folders.  CLARIFICATION FOR REGION PHIL MEMBERS:  You will only be performing the 2nd movement of the Hanson Symphony.  No transportation will be provided for this in-district activity, so please be sure that you plan your travel time.  Tardiness may cause you to lose your chair.  Bring a folding music stand and all necessary accoutrements, including rosin, sheet music and pencil, roc-stops and bass stools.

Alternates would be wise to prepare some of the material and be prepared to be called should any no-shows not arrive.  Congratulations to Ariane Gerard who was called up to be a member of the Region Philharmonic Orchestras!

HOLIDAY CONCERTS
We have two upcoming performances in December.  Our first performance, the Holiday Extravaganza is on Friday, December 12th.  We start at 5:30p with a Dinner and Silent Auction in the Main Commons.  The dinner tickets are $20, and are we being catered by Carino's.  We also have a kids pizza plate for $10.

The Silent Auction will feature baskets for auction and performances from the mimes, the dance department, and the color guard.  After dinner and the show, patrons will proceed to the PAC where members of the varsity band, choir, and orchestra will perform music from "The Nutcracker", Vivaldi's "Winter" and other holiday favorites.  But the bidding doesn't stop in the first half.you also have an opportunity to bid on an opportunity to conduct the Symphony Orchestras!  The concert is free.

The Silent Auction and dinner is a huge fundraiser for the upcoming musical.  If you have something that can be donated like concert or event tickets, or work for an airline or corporation that can donate gift cards, please contact me regarding your generous donation.

Our second concert will begin on Saturday, December 13th at 6:00 in the 9th Grade Center with dessert and chamber music from the best of our chamber ensembles.  The SLHS musicians will continue at 7:00p in the SLHS.  Our Grand Finale will feature over 150 string players, including invited 8th graders from Beck, Beckendorff and Woodcreek JHs, and returning Alumni of the SLHS Orchestras.  This concert is also free.  Please join us for this wonderful concert!

Happy Wednesday!
